Cossham Hospital will be holding ‘drop-in’ sessions for the public this week to find out more about the out of hours services running there – and how to access them.

Clinicians and staff from the GP out of hours and NHS 111 services will be holding informal ‘drop-in’ sessions opposite the hospital cafe.

They take place on:

  • Tuesday, 2 December 4pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday, 3 December 4pm – 8pm
  • Thursday, 4 December 10am – 2pm

Since the GP out of hours base at Cossham Hospital opened in May this year over 9,000 patients have been seen there. Eighty-one per cent of the patients were treated there and then.

Patients who have an urgent medical need whilst their own GP practice is closed can ring the NHS 111 telephone service for assessment and advice. If they need to see a GP or nurse, the NHS 111 service will book an appointment for them at Cossham Hospital. The service is not a walk-in service and appointments can only be made over the phone.

Dr Jonathan Hayes, Chairman of South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group – the GP-led body responsible for planning and buying healthcare for the local population – said: “We have shown our continued commitment to Cossham Hospital by investing in a range of services there recently, including a GP out-of-hours service, a wounds dressing clinic and a rapid access clinic for frail elderly patients.

“I would encourage local people to attend the ‘drop-in’ sessions to meet the clinicians and staff, find out what out of hours services are available and how to access them.”
